The Botanical Artists Association of Southern Africa (BAASA) is a non-profit organisation dedicated to promoting public awareness of botanical art in southern Africa. BAASA is open to all botanical artists, whether scientific illustrators or realistic flower painters, as well as collectors and those interested in furthering the tradition of botanical art.

How wet is the paper?
For those of us who battle with the wetness of the paper below is a very useful summary from the Handprint website that explains the stages of wetness and how to achieve the different stages. I'm not sure I agree with drying the paper with a hot-air gun, but nevertheless........
The details page mentioned in the graphic above "six stages of paper wetness" elaborates on the effect of the degree of wetness on paint behaviour.

ReplyDeleteI have used a hot air gun/hairdryer in the past in order to speed up drying times, and although it is quite common to do so in landscape work I find it counter productive. The reason is that rather than some colours sitting on the paper, it drives all pigments into the paper, and can result in a rather dull/bland and unpleasantly uniform look. Patience is a virtue!
